FRUIT BODY: 5-15cm in diameter. Kidney or fan-shaped with an irregular edge and a slightly zonal upper surface that is felted to the touch at first and gradually becomes more smooth. The cinnamon colour of the upper surface is made up of usually 3 or 4 lighter/darker bands. GILLS/PORES: Pores cinnamon-orange.  Angular. FLESH: White and slightly spongy becoming tougher with age. All parts turn purple with KOH. Has a sweetish smell. SPORES: White, elliptical. HABITAT: On dead deciduous wood, usually logs and less so on branches. SEASON: Uncommon.  All year round. EDIBILITY: Inedible.
